A striking chess set featuring red and black chessmen in a traditional Staunton broadbase pattern, these unique pieces are beautifully carved, stained and then polished by our master craftsmen.
All the pieces are perfectly weighted and with the added detail to their collars and smooth shanks, they are a pleasure to handle. The imposing King stands tall and proud at 3.75 inches including his ornamental finial with the substantial knight maintaining a focused stare in true original Staunton style.
As these pieces have broader bases than normal, a 21.7 inch board would be most suited to accommodate them. We have matched them in this set with a stunning black and maple veneered board from Spain. It is as though the board and pieces were made for each other.
Red and Black Broadbase Chessmen also available without the board.
This chess board has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different colour from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in colour from batch to batch.

This chess set is an exquisite set for the price. The chess pieces are beautifully carved and are very well balanced. The red and black pieces are lovely and come with two queens of each color. The board is a great match for the chess pieces and has a lovely finish to it. The set is a real pleasure to play with and I would definitely recommend this set to anyone wanting to spend a bit bit more for a good quality chess set.
